What Maureen’s Students Say…

“Maureen is the teacher who gave me my voice back. After years of struggling with my technique due to some bad teaching in college and then a vocally-fatiguing job as a music teacher, I had developed vocal tension and lost much of my resonance. Maureen’s methods of connecting speech with singing as well as her straight-forward approach to the breath helped me to find my voice again. Maureen’s approach is warm, honest, and sincere. She brings her lifetime of experience, her intellect, and her humor to each lesson. As a choir director, Maureen is my #1 recommendation to all my students when they ask for a voice teacher. Maureen is a joy!”

Julie Bickford
Choral Conductor and HS Chorus Teacher

“I have gained great insight into vocal technique through studying with Maureen O’Flynn, and my singing has vastly improved. Even better, her teaching has also nurtured my soul. While encouraging me to dig deeper into technical and musical challenges, she has helped me find my authentic artistry. When I perform now, I have a more stable vocal technique, but even more importantly, I feel free to express myself completely. I am beyond grateful.”

Mary Hubbell, Soprano
Adjunct Prof. Of Voice, University of Massachusetts

“Maureen is such an intuitive voice teacher. Working with her has been a revelation and I only wish that I had started studying with her sooner. In my own teaching, Her body-centric approach is so individualized that I would recommend her to any singer, whether just starting out or decades into their voice study.”
Emily Kennerley (MM Westminster Choir College, voice instructor at St. Paul’s Choir School Harvard Square)

“Maureen’s masterclass with our young artists at Ars Musica was incredible. She has an amazing ability to connect quickly with singers and help them hone their craft. Her coaching offers nuggets of wisdom that often inspires her subjects to want to study full time with her! I would recommend her to anyone looking for a boost to their voice program.”

James Kennerley (organist, conductor, composer)

“I met Maureen in a summer program in Mexico back in 2012 and I remember just falling in love with not only her teaching style , but also her wonderful personality. In fact, she is a major part of the reason I decided to leave Mexico and work with her full time at The Hartt School. Her goal is for all of her students to help them find their authentic, healthy sound for singing. She not only teaches technique, like breathing naturally and fully engaging your support, but also teaches singers to engage dramatically, encouraging them to put emotion in every note and give meaning to every breath you take, which further assists technique. She gives a lot of attention to your specific body and bone structure, because what may work for one singer might not work for another. When I went to graduate school, I received many comments about how my technique was very solid, which is thanks to Maureen.

Beyond our lessons, I also learned how to be a good colleague, to always be prepared for rehearsal, and how to further hone my acting skills for the stage.

Besides Maureen being an amazing voice teacher that really cares about her students, she is an amazing human being. I like to call her my American mom because she’s always there for me and she will be there for you too!”

Judy Chirino, soprano

“I thought I knew how to sing before I met Maureen. I barely had a clue. Because of her teachings, my voice is now stronger, clearer, and healthier than I could have imagined. She is a wonderful teacher; she is honest, professional, caring, and kind. The techniques she focuses on do not only make you sound good, but they also make singing natural, easy, and free. She opened my eyes to a whole new world of vocal potential, and I highly recommend her as a teacher.”
